Argo Tea Apple Hibiscus

Argo Tea Apple Hibiscus
We talk a lot about sugar and real sugar and fake sugar and at the end of it I would give it all up for unsweet tea. This would be a good start. It's good. It tastes like something you could make at home but who cares. It's there in a fancy glass container with a gigantic mouth that's hard to drink out of but that's a lame complaint that I'm not even using against the final report card of this drink.

Look, apple isn't a strong flavor. This does taste like apple but faintly. The hibiscus is good, though. Paired together is a nice. Think of it like a boisterous party guy who is dating a real sweet but quiet girl. What a pair but they are on both ends of the spectrum. This is the nice relationship that is two people that truly love each other that you question why they're together until you see them in person and all questions are answered.

Honeydrop Raw Local Honey Lemon Cayenne Cleanse

Honeydrop Raw Local Honey Lemon Cayenne Cleanse
Where do I sign up for the cleanse that I just drink this? Is it far away? I will take a trip. Seriously. This is fantastic. It tastes like a spicy lemonade and then you lick your lips and it tastes like honey. I would go broke if I did it but I would probably feel a whole lot better if I did. This drink was $7. When Jay did his cleanse, he drank four a day for three days and that math adds up to $84. I might feel better physically but mentally I would feel like I was robbed. I'm not saying it was not worth it but I simply could not justify spending that on juice. If they could somehow cut the price by adding non-local honey or something, bringing this down would let me buy it more and, who knows, feel better.

Seriously, I wish I hadn't had it shared with me from my lady friend and drank the whole thing. It was wonderful. Just slightly less punishing and masochistic than a Prometheus Springs.

San Benedetto Cipriani Bellini

San Benedetto Cipriani Bellini
What better way to ring in the day after a wedding than to drink a crisp, refreshing Bellini? This drink, according to people that drink and people that do not drink, was faithful to its name. It was very sharp. I think the carbonation mixed with the sweetness of the peach juice made it such but it was good. There were little bits of peach in it and it was supposedly made with 25% peach juice. This is also to be used as a mix but honestly, I don't know why you would want to ruin this otherwise very good drink with alcohol. I guess that is why I don't drink because "I just don't get it."

I hope that this company follows their own path and uses this same model to create other drinks using the same formula because I think they would all be this good.

Long Island Lemon

Long Island Lemon
As I review this, I am in Long Island. I am drinking Long Island Iced Tea in Long Island. This, as if it needs to be said, is non-alcoholic. It is just iced tea. It is a sweetened iced tea but there isn't much "tea" flavor. It isn't bad but it's just kind of sweetened stuff. If Nestea was better, it would be this. It's not fantastic and it doesn't taste like a sweet tea with lemon. It tastes like a general "iced tea" made with real sugar and with lemon flavor. I would say "nothing to write about" but writing about drinks is kind of what I do. Long Island...you never cease to bore me.

Arizona Crazy Cocktail

Arizona Crazy Cocktail
Who would have ever guessed that carrot juice could be so good? I mean I am a friend of the carrot, and I enjoy eating them in their crisp, raw form, but I never thought I would take pleasure in drinking their life-juice. Let's be fair, there is a lot of sugar in here. I mean an obscene amount, like 65g. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the enjoyment factor. It also helps that apples, pears and mangos are also in the mix. The combination of all of these fruits and vegetables creates an unusual fruit punch that you won't be seeing in gallon buckets. The flavor here is almost all mango and carrot. The apple falls into the “sweet taste” category and I can't really make out the pear.

This could have been a nice healthy juice if it were freshly concocted without added sweeteners, but the high fructose corn syrup throws any health benefits out the window. It actually makes me feel fairly guilty for having drunk this entire bottle. That is so much unnecessary sugar I just ingested. Well, at least it tasted pretty great.

Something Natural Sparkling Water Strawberry Peach

Something Natural Sparkling Water Strawberry Peach
Fun fact: The Something Natural Company is entirely run by birds. I'm not talking in British slang here; I mean honest to goodness hollow boned, feathered creatures of the sky. The entire reason that these beverages are natural is that the employees don't have the thumbs needed to process…€¦..okay this is just dumb. I think that by insinuating that birds run a company, my idea tank is officially running low. Ignore the birds. There are simply birds on the various labels the company has used in the past. They are nice looking birds, but they are not producing any sort of beverage, well maybe birds nest.

This is a fairly dry beverage, although they do use cane sugar as well as stevia in its production. Even with both of those sweeteners there are only 7g of sugar in this bottle. Not too shabby. The strawberry and peach flavors are both decently strong without being very sweet. That is a nice trick that I'm sure the magicians at the company will reveal the secrets of. At the end of the day this is labeled a sparkling water, but if you called it soda pop and gave it to kids they wouldn't know the difference and it would be much healthier for them. If they put up a fuss, steal my bird lie and they will love it.

Sugarcane Island Raw Sugarcane Juice Ginger & Lime

Sugarcane Island Raw Sugarcane Juice Ginger & Lime
I don't even drink alcohol and I can tell you that this would be the greatest mixer of all time. It's sweet, it has lime in it and it has just the right amount of burn. This is the kind of flavor that could make a sober man turn to the bottle. Actually never mind that, because they can just go out and buy a bottle of this and leave the alcohol out of it.

With only three ingredients Sugarcane Island created a beverage that far superior to those who could have all the ingredients in the world. Simple is almost always better, especially when it's fresh pressed and involved a buttload of ginger. I do admit that it is a tad sweeter than what I would normally drink, and that is the only thing keeping me from giving it top marks. Flavor-wise the ginger to lime ratio is perfect, it's just the sweetener that is keeping me from enjoying an entire bottle. Perhaps I should add a little water to make it what I want as well as to stretch it out.

High Brew Cold Brew Coffee Mexican Vanilla

High Brew Cold Brew Coffee Mexican Vanilla
Good. Good. Good. Good. Bitter. Bitter. Cold. That's the roller coaster that this drink takes. It's good for a while. It's got a good coffee taste. In hindsight I don't really taste any vanilla but the fact that it's not super coffee tasting I can only assume that it's partially due to the vanilla smoothing the edges like the nice router collecting dust in your late grandpa's basement. The bitter comes from the coffee. It's good. It tastes like a good, sweet, iced coffee. Where the cold comes from is the Stevia. It is quite dastardly in this drink. It somehow overpowers vanilla and coffee. It leaves you with a distracting cold that takes away from the otherwise good flavor of its brethren. How dare you. Show your elders some respect.

Little Miracles Organic Energy Green Tea Ginseng Pomegranate Acai Agave

Little Miracles Organic Energy Green Tea Ginseng Pomegranate Acai Agave
I don't know if I knew what to expect with this drink. There are a lot of flavors in that title. Can you taste all of it? I actually think so. So right away, kudos. Green tea and ginseng? Right off the bat. That's your round one. That is followed by a mix of pomegranate and acai. I have never eaten a raw acai. I have seen that one web advertisement where that "newscaster" girl is touting that it's some sort of cancer killing miracle fruit. Those two friends, acai and pomegranate work together in bitter, fruity harmony. The agave gives it a smooth sweetness. I actually like it. It's sort of calming and rounds out the edges a bit. This has a decent amount of bitterness from all of the companies combined which is nice since after all, it's supposed to be bitter.

All around, it's good. It does what it's supposed to and tastes like how it's supposed to taste. It's not asking a lot but rarely delivered. Congrats!

Harvest Bay Coconut Water Pineapple

Harvest Bay Coconut Water Pineapple
For decades of my life I was denied the joys of the pina colada. My hatred of coconut ran so deep, that I dare not even try this delicious mixture. Why no one ever told me that toasted coconut and coconut water taste vastly different I will never know, but those people owe me a whole lot of this stuff to make up for lost time.

If I have learned anything from movies and other media it's that this is the taste of paradise. It's what everyone is constantly drinking in tropical locations. I completely understand why. It's extremely refreshing and it tastes wonderful. On top of that, whenever I drink some it gives me a relaxing sensation. It's like I'm in a hammock in the shade of some trees on a beach just listening to the waves. What other drink gives you that experience?

This has a nice pineapple flavor that perfectly blends in with the coconut water. It's also sweetened by palm sugar, which I have never tried before to the best of my knowledge. Even the sweetener is tropical with this drink. I need a vacation.

Dry Apple Soda

Dry Apple Soda
Dry Soda is known for their more “outsider” flavors. When they hit the market it was with flavors such as lavender, juniper berry and vanilla bean. Since then they have expanded their line to include their take on more traditional flavors, which are available only in cans and not glass bottles. At first I was unsure of this company, as like most Americans I was a soda junky. Over the years my palate has refined and I have grown to enjoy a light, dry soda. I don't need so much sugar in my life, and these sodas work perfectly to cover my need for bubbles that are flavorful.

If you are familiar with most apple sodas that are on the market, then you know that they tend to be some of the sweetest pops that you can find. Dry didn't fall into that trap. They kept their mission statement, which I can only assume is “Use sugar sparingly,” and made a lightly sweetened soda that is just great. I could drink this stuff all day. It's mostly sparkling water, but there is enough apple flavor in there to quench your longing, without being overpowering. It almost tastes unnatural for an apple flavor to be so light in a drink, but it's well worth your time and money, so I can only hope you are at the market looking up what we thought of this drink, and then you go and buy them out.

Tazo Herbal Iced Blushberry Black

Tazo Herbal Iced Blushberry Black
Shannon, you've got to calm down. I don't know what the big deal is. You always get like this. You stress out over something that really doesn't matter. I'm your friend and you wanted me to tell you when you were getting ridiculous. Now is that time. I've been thinking and I think I've got what you need. Answer? Herbal tea. Whenever you get all jittery about something as dumb as Alexis in accounting wearing the same dress as you, go to the break room and make some of this tea. I bought it for you. It's light yet complex. It's got fruity flavors from raspberry, strawberry and huckleberry and also has a slight hint of licorice at the end. It's just something to sit and think about. Instead of complaining aloud as to why your DVR didn't record Pretty Little Liars, just sit in the break room and mull over this nice drink. I've got a couple bags of this. It comes in those giant, family sized tea bags so I can make an entire pitcher and have it in my fridge for a couple of days.

Look Shannon. People are talking and they're pretty sick of it. I'm trying to keep your job by giving you something creative to focus your time on. No one cares about how much you wish you could live the lives of any of the Real Housewives. Trust me. No one cares, Shan.

High Brew Cold Brew Coffee Dark Chocolate Mocha

High Brew Cold Brew Coffee Dark Chocolate Mocha
Let's be honest with ourselves, when you drink coffee out of a can you can't really expect a brew of very high quality. It's never going to be as good as getting something made at your local coffee shop, well unless that shop is run by a bunch of yokels who have no idea what they are doing. I've drunk a decent amount of these canned mochas and they range from horrible to decent. I've never been blown away by one before, until now...Oh wait, no this one didn't get me there either, although I really thought it would. It has a nice coffee flavor, and an exceptional chocolate taste to it. The problem is that they used a blend of sugar and stevia and that just throws the whole thing out of the window. I'm all for lowering the sugar intake of humans, but there are times when just using less sugar would be the better choice over using a zero calorie sweetener, natural or not. It almost always takes a nice, natural flavor and makes it feel wrong.

I don't want to dwell on the negative here though. If it wasn't for the inclusion of stevia, this would be the best canned coffee drink I have ever tasted. The chocolate would have been the secret of this drinks success. It actually tastes like a quality dark chocolate bar was melted down, and not like some garbage powder that most companies use. The fact that the coffee was cold brewed is also a nice touch. It's just too bad that one ingredient can knock down an otherwise really nice product.

Spider Venom Sipping Cherry Cola

Spider Venom Sipping Cherry Cola
Today is Halloween in in order to celebrate its arrival I've been watching far too many horror movies all month. Actually, I keep telling myself it's because of the season but in reality I am always watching horror movies. Seriously, I think I have a problem. The funny thing about today being Halloween and all is that I decided to celebrate at work with this bottle of Sider Venom soda and by watching the Mel Brooks gem Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Perhaps I had burned myself out, or maybe it's because I like to laugh at dumb-funny movies. Whatever the reason, I simply don't care and it made the work day fly by.

Another thing that flew by was this soda. I drank it way faster than I meant to. It was delicious and I have little self-control. This is the season for gluttony, right? The cola flavor in this soda is pretty much lost behind the veil of wonderful cherry. It's not like a candied cherry as the flavor comes from the extract of dark sweet cherry and not some artificial garbage. I could have used a stronger cola, and if that had been the case this might have been a near perfect pop. Wasn't that the name of your band in high school? Near Perfect Pop?

This soda would have been great during any season, but the spooookkkyyyy label made it a perfect addition to my day. I can also pretend that this is what the spiders that Renfield ate in the movie tasted like. Man, he would have been one lucky servant if that was the case.

Chaparritas Apple

Chaparritas Apple
Apple juice: One of the hardest things to review. Why? It really tastes so similar it's like splitting hairs. It's the same with orange juice. It's hard. Also, before you ask, the answer is "Yes." Yes, we know the difference between "hard work" and "hard to review juice." We're aware of our place in this world, alright?

This is apple juice. The difference is that this has sugar in it. Most apple juices are straight apple juice. I do not know why Chaparritas decided to add sugar and honestly, it doesn't change the taste at all. If they would have used a different sweetener like corn syrup it probably would have made it strange and thick but since they used natural, cane sugar, it probably closely mimics that of the sugar that comes from apples.

Sugar? No sugar? At the end of the day you've got a nice, petite glass of apple juice.

Dunkin' Donuts Dunkaccino

Dunkin' Donuts Dunkaccino
Like a scene right out of Chapelle Show's "Pop Copy" skit, I walked in to Dunkin' Donuts and the employees were talking about not committing a crime because it wasn't worth going to jail and having something on their record. Fantastic. I, for one, enjoy catching little gems like that. At least these people have some sort of personality and aren't just robots behind a counter pressing buttons. As long as it doesn't affect my food, continue on, please. I find myself right now asking myself what it is that wasn't worth it. In between jail talk I managed to ask what a Dunkaccino was. Her response was that it was like a mocha but with a powder. I have reviewed Dunkin' Donuts mocha and it was disappointing. Why? Because they advertised it to me as "Oh, you mean a half hot chocolate and half coffee?" pulling the sheet off the magic trick. This was described with a bit less blatancy.

This tasted like hot cocoa with a touch, a dash of coffee. It wasn't bad. It went down pretty smoothly as if it was somehow "lighter" than regular hot cocoa. Frothy, perhaps.

At the end of the day, I'll probably get the jitters from a minimum amount of coffee-based caffeine like a wimp but hey, if the glove fits.

Phancy Soda Chanh Vietnamese Sparkling Limeade

Phancy Soda Chanh Vietnamese Sparkling Limeade
When I first read this companies website, I immediately thought to myself, “These people are either completely unaware of the market, or they are a bunch of dirty liars.” You see they claimed that in 2012 they released “the first packaged, shelf stable, ready-to-drink, & natural Vietnamese Sparkling Limeade beverage.” I thought to myself, I've had limeade before, this is nothing new, those liars!” Then I looked back at prior reviews on Thirsty Dudes and I realized that all of the limeades I have drunk in the past were either still beverages or they were mixed with cherry if they were carbonated. None of them would be considered classic sparkling limeade. I take back the thoughts I had in my head Phancy. Your statement may very well be correct, even if it blows my mind that this hasn't been marketed before.

The genius of this beverage is in its simplicity. The only ingredients are sparkling water, lime juice and cane sugar. It tastes authentic and homemade. It actually tastes like someone squeezed a lime into sweetened water, which is how it should taste, because that is what it is.

Obviously this leads me to think of lemonade with the primary ingredient swapped out for limes. That lead me to wonder if children in Vietnam set up limeade stands in front of their house, like kids sell lemonade in the states. I hope they do, because that sounds delicious.

Sugarcane Island Raw Sugarcane Juice Original

Sugarcane Island Raw Sugarcane Juice Original
'Tis apple season. We made it. We made it to another apple season. Also, apparently equally as important is that it is "pumpkin spice" season but that holds no weight in this review. This is a sugarcane drink. This is just a sugarcane drink, too. So why am I mentioning apples? Well it tastes like a really sweet, earthy, slightly rotten apple, that's why. I could not tell you why it tastes like this but it does. It's not terribly fantastic, either. It's really sweet and that's fine since it is sugarcane. Sugarcane itself, the raw stalk, tastes good because there is a cool texture when you bite it. This is just a liquid and it comes at you a little fast and there is nothing to break up the onslaught of sugar water down your gullet. I don't want and I didn't want that. I understand that it's raw and that's the only ingredient but I bet if I cut it with water or something it would have been more tolerable.

Grand Teton Brewing Company Kettle Brewed Soda Black Cherry

Grand Teton Brewing Company Kettle Brewed Soda Black Cherry
The power of the moose compels you. The moose compels you to drink a soda flavor that you would normally overlook. The moose is not sure if either black cherry or lemon lime is the worst of the classic soda flavors. The moose doesn't care. It could be any flavor, and if the moose is on the label you drink it. As it turns out the moose is very wise and doesn't appear on just any label. It knew that I couldn't care less about black cherry soda, so it strolled up to that digitally created stream to stand in a picturesque pose, just knowing that it would get my attention. The moose was right; not only that its presence would get me to drink this soda, but also that this is above and beyond a standard black cherry. The main reason is that cherry juice is actually present in this beverage albeit in a concentrated form. It's more than other companies deliver and it gives a normally bland flavor the kick it needs to make it truly enjoyable. It's still tastes like black cherry, but how it should taste and not articifial. Since it's kettle brewed it also has a bit of the standard flavor that goes along with that. It's vaguely smoky and a little metaly.

I was waiting for Mike to get around to reviewing this, but then the moose came to me and told me to partake. When a silhouette of a moose talks to you, you listen.

Aloe Very Green Tea

Aloe Very Green Tea
If there are two beverages that I truly enjoy in this world it would be green tea and aloe juice. I drink at least a half-gallon of unsweetened green tea daily and back before I was watching my sugar intake so much I used to down those giant 50oz bottles of aloe all the time. The thought of that now makes me feel disgusted with myself, but man are they tasty.

This product combines those two wonderful beverages with low calories and low sugar. While that sounds great on paper, I think the lack of sugar/use of stevia takes away from the allure of the aloe. The way it is I don't like it aloe very much. See what I did there? Terrible joke. The aloe flavor that I love is nowhere to be found. I'm guessing it's obscene amounts of sugar that give it the wonderful white grapeish flavor. In addition to that the tea flavor is not very strong.

I've told you what this drink is lacking and now I'll tell you what it delivers. What I get when I take a sip is a watered down green tea that has been mixed with not-very-sweet aloe that gives it a taste that makes me think of a cleaner. All of that is sweetened with a mixture of cane sugar and stevia with a hint of honey thrown in for good measure. Doesn't sound very good, does it? Luckily it does deliver a nice smattering of vitamins and it is also very refreshing. I can only imagine drinking this on a hot summer day would quench your thirst quite nicely. Make sure you're prepared for a flavor that isn't terrible, but also one that doesn't live up to it's potential.
