Sonoma Sparkler Natural Peach

Sonoma Sparkler Natural Peach
Once again Mike and I are on the same wavelength. We both randomly drank and reviewed Sonoma Sparklers today. We know each otherâ…‚¬…„¢s bodies. He said his raspberry was pretty tasty, and I can verify that the natural peach flavored one is out of this world. It tastes exactly like Looza peach nectar if it were carbonated (and not so thick). Itâ…‚¬…„¢s out of control good. Itâ…‚¬…„¢s like someone took the worldâ…‚¬…„¢s most perfectly ripe peach and injected it with a syringe full of carbon dioxide. Itâ…‚¬…„¢s apparently mostly apple juice with peach concentrate added, but I really only taste peach. There was no need to add sweeteners, so they didnâ…‚¬…„¢t. When I say Iâ…‚¬…„¢m in love you best believe Iâ…‚¬…„¢m in love, and I am 100% in love with this sparkling juice.

Sonoma Sparkler Raspberry

Sonoma Sparkler Raspberry
Jimmy loved the Fourth of July. He loved both the holiday and the Soundgarden record. When he rode to his aunt and uncle's house every Fourth, he would see how long he would be able to listen to that song on loop before he couldn't take it anymore and turn it off. His record is nine.

When he got to his relative's house, his aunt said that she had some sparklers for him. Now Jimmy was nineteen and didn't get the same kick out of sparklers as he once did. He went to go get some pulled pork and corn when he saw his aunt coming out with a small box. She handed him the box and he asked her what it was. She told him that it was a box of sparklers. He looked inside and there were small bottles of a carbonated drink that was all fruit and no sugar. Jimmy was pretty psyched because it was either this or off-brand colas.

He sat down to talk to his grandpa about what each other have been up to and cracked open the raspberry Sparkler. He was pretty excited about how good it was. It tastes like carbonated apple juice with crushed up raspberries in it. He then went through all his relatives at the party and told everyone to drink some. They all liked it. He was more than happy to have this box of drinks to share with his entire extended family. He doesn't really have a lot to talk to a lot of them, even the ones that he sees outside of the annual reunion. Now that he had this drink, that wasn't going to be a problem for at least two years.

Fave 100% Fruit & Vegetable Juice Strawberry Banana Kiwi

Fave 100% Fruit & Vegetable Juice Strawberry Banana Kiwi
Seeing as neither Mike nor I can stand bananas and Derek lives on the other side of the country, this has been sitting in my fridge for at least four months. It just stares at me every time I open the door, taunting me. You know just smirking because it knows that I have to drink it eventually and even though it is being consumed, it ultimately wins because I'm drinking something that I dislike so much. Today I took a deep sigh, opened up the fridge and grabbed the bottle, preparing for its victory.

You often see strawberry banana drinks and strawberry kiwi drinks, but it's rare for all three to be hanging out in the same bottle. I prayed to whatever deity I don't believe in that it would be heavier on the kiwi front. Santa Claus must have heard my mumblings because this drink doesn't taste like bananas at all. Seriously, I swished it around my mouth, just held it there, swallowed and concentrated really hard, but I cant' detect even the faintest taste of that wretched fruit. It's mainly kiwi, with a bit of strawberry in there and then it has that taste that all drinks have when fruits and vegetables are mixed together. It should be a gross taste, you know mixing cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and beets in a juice, but I kind of dig it. On top of all of that there are no added sweeteners. Fave let the natural sugars in the fruits do the talking, and its as sweet as any juice needs to be with only 12g of sugar per serving.

Fave you have made a fairly tasty juice here, but you may want to change the name of the flavor. Actually maybe you don't. Maybe this tastes even better to me because I thought it was going to be all gross and banana ridden. This way I was so pumped that I drank two glasses. No I think it's the juice on it's own that made me do that.

Cheribundi Cacao Cherry

Cheribundi Cacao Cherry
What a wonderful treat. The regular Cheribundi is a tart little number. This was a great step in the right direction. I'm not saying that I didn't like the previously mentioned variety, but this one is like a dessert. It's a little like a chocolate covered cherry, yes. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that anything that is chocolate and cherry must taste like cherry cordials. It does but with less sweetness. It's still tart but still retains that awesome chocolate taste. If you are into that type of thing, dessert at all hours of the day, this could be the drink for you. A delicious little surprise strategically placed in the "nature" or "organic" or "whatever" section of the store. Now that you've read this, you know where to find it. People who haven't read this will be looking in the regular drink section or the dessert section. Idiots. You are now smarter for having read this than everyone else. Congratulations.

The Sparkling Alternative Sparkling Cherry

The Sparkling Alternative Sparkling Cherry
Are you tired of drinking the same old sparkling cherry drinks? Have they become old hat and boring to you? Well do we have something special for you! We're proud to introduce the sparkling alternative to sparkling cherry! It's fruity and sweet and....wait a minute...this isn't right...according to this drink/label the alternative to sparkling cherry is sparkling apple. All that is in this bottle is sparkling apple juice. According to the ingredients there isn't a drop of cherry juice or anything cherry related at all in here. That makes sense since this really just tastes like a high quality sparkling apple juice. There is no added sugar, like all juice drinks should be. It's really delicious, but the lack of a cherry flavor with a name like is has is off putting. I don't know if it's mislabeled or what, but WTF mate?

Columbia Gorge Vitasea

Columbia Gorge Vitasea
I am under the impression that all green "super food" drinks are delicious. Everyone I've ever tried is good and filling and full of lots of stuff that's good for you. I don't like to drink them on a regular basis because they are very thick. I'd say once a month or every other month I pass the juice cooler at Whole Foods or New Seasons and think "I really need a drink that is good for me for a change". I don't even want to know what all the soda I drink has done to my insides.

This particular green drink has lots of delicious green vegetables that read like the worlds most delicious seaweed salad. Mmmm, now I want sushi. Anyways, there's also a bunch of fruit purees in here that make it sweet so it's not just a liquid salad. Columbia Gorge (or as we call it in Portland, CoGo) succeeds in making another delicious drink.

Speaking of CoGo, it's a bummer for the rest of the USA that they don't have a large distribution. Here in Portland they are in every store right next to Odwalla and Naked (they are basically competitors with them if you will). You know what? Columbia Gorge makes WAAAAAY better drinks than the other two.

Boing! Mango

Boing! Mango
Drinks that come in containers not normally associated with their type are always odd to me. This has been in my cupboard for a while and every few weeks I look at it, and it takes me a second to remember that it's not mango soda. While it may have confused me I appreciate the effort put into this bottle. It's neat, and I love the embossed “Boing!” on the bottle. The label is pretty great looking as well. Do you want to know something else? The juice inside the bottle isn't half bad either. It's more of a nectar than a juice, and that's how I like my mango beverages. It's thick and sweet, okay maybe a bit too sweet. I feel like the drink would have fared just fine without the added sugar. Oh well it's in there, and there's nothing I can do about that. Looks like I'll just have to kick back and enjoy it anyways.

Silk Fruit & Protein Mango Peach

Silk Fruit & Protein Mango Peach
I'm sorry your dessert has taken so long to get to you. As you may know this is our opening weekend and we did not expect to be this busy. Who would have known that this many people in the city would be interested in a vegan restaurant? We've been completely slammed, and it's great, but exhausting.

I know you ordered the mango peach soy ice cream, but what I didn't know was that the kitchen put it out for me to drop off to you, and I got caught up with another table. As a result it ended up melting, and unfortunately that was the last bowl of it we had left. I poured the melted mess into a glass for you, in case you still wanted it. I'll take that and your drinks off of the bill. I'm sorry again.

What's that you're offended that I would offer you soy ice cream melt? Well fine, maybe I will drink it myself! MMM…€¦this is actually really good. If I didn't know this was supposed to be frozen I would think this was a nice thick drink. Well, I guess it's not too thick, but thicker than most. You can really taste both of the fruit flavors in here. You two messed up royally by not accepting this. It's delicious and so darn smooth. I bet Silk could put this in cartons and it would fly off the shelves. Seriously, you don't know what you're missing you fools. Maybe next time you won't be so rude to your server and good things will come to you.

Raaw Pineapple Cucumber

Raaw Pineapple Cucumber
Cucumber drinks are incredible. They are tasty and as I've said in the past, the most refreshing drinks I've ever had. The thing is that it's the innards of the cucumber that is the tasty part. Sure, if you're eating cucumber slices the skin isn't bad, but there isn't much of it to make an impact. I feel like this drink is more cucumber skin than meat. That's right I referred to the insides of a cucumber as meat, what are you going to do about it? Anyways, it has a dirty skin taste that I'm really not into very much. I tried to tell myself I was alright with it, but after about half the bottle I had to throw in the towel. The flavor of the cucumber skin was just so strong. I couldn't handle it. You would think that a flavor as strong as pineapple would overpower the cucumber skin, but it took the back seat on this drink. If you can see through the skin you can make out the pineapple.

This is definitely a strange drink. It tastes like every health food is described in early 90's television. I wanted to like this. Nah, I wanted to love this, but I just couldn't do it. Had they skinned the cucumbers I think this would have been one of my favorite drinks ever, but as it stands this is for the diehard healthy eaters out there.

Do I win an award for saying “skin” so many times?

R.W. Knudsen Sparkling Organic Pear

R.W. Knudsen Sparkling Organic Pear
The McCulley family had taken thief life savings and used it to purchase a farm. They were sick of working for “The Man,” and since they were getting older they decided it was time to do something for themselves. The previous owners had planted a huge orchard a couple of years ago and this was to be the first year the trees were to yield a useable fruit. They had such plans for all of the apples they would be harvesting in the Fall. The amount of juice and cider they were going to produce would be mind blowing.

Finally the seasons began to change and the fruit started appearing on the trees. The problem was that these trees weren't apple trees like they had expected. They were pear trees. Mr. McCulley was furious, but there was nothing he could do. You see he had never asked the realtor or the previous owner what kind of trees they were. He had just assumed they were apple trees because that's what he had in is mind, and he thought that assumption was going to end up being his downfall. What was he to do with so many pears? No one wanted pear juice, and there was only so much pear jam you could push in the market.

He had accepted that he had ruined his family's financial well-being. He was standing out in the orchard fighting back the tears, trying to decide how to tell his family that they were ruined when his wife walked up. Very quietly she just said, “Pears, huh? Looks like we're going to be making a bunch of sparkling juice.” How could he be so blind? Adding carbonation to any juice instantly gave it a slightly different flavor that was appealing to a great deal of people.

Once the harvest was ready they made up their first batch of sparkling pear juice. All they did was juice all of the pears and add sparkling filtered water to it, and they were good to go. Mr. McCulley gave it a sip and was pleased. It certainly tasted like pears, but it wasn't very overpowering like pears can be. It was very sweet, even though he had added no sugar to it. He hesitated to say it, but after a few more sips, he was sure that it was actually really good, great even. His family was saved! He sold off his batch to the R.W. Knudsen company and used the profits to invest in the stock market. There was no way that could be a bad investment for his family.

Nestle Jamba Strawberry Banana

Nestle Jamba Strawberry Banana
If you ask any of the three Thirsty Dudes, strawberries are awesome. If you inquire again with the same three dudes they will tell you that bananas are garbage. It's really weird the first time you approach them, no matter what you ask they reply about strawberries, the second about bananas. Someone could ask, “Do you know what time it is?” and they would be told, “Strawberries are awesome.” Science has finally broken their brains. So much in fact they have started writing in the third person.

This drink is supposed to taste like strawberry banana, but in reality tastes more like an apple drink with a bit of banana flavoring in it, and even less strawberry. I was able to drink more of it than any other banana-based drink I've ever tried, but it still wasn't great. It was also lightly carbonated, even though sparkling water is not listed in the ingredients or anywhere on the can. I found that odd.

In the end this was a bit better than I expected, but I still found it not very appealing. If it had a real banana flavor I would have given it higher marks for all you savages out there who like that garbage fruit, but as it stands I just can't do it.

Reed's Natural Energy Elixer

Reed's Natural Energy Elixer
Reed's, you never let us down in making a delicious drink. I picked this up today instead of coffee. I haven't had much luck (in the ways of taste) when it comes to "natural" energy drinks. It's naturally caffeinated with green tea, which is nice and gives it that mellow green tea flavor. There's also a bunch of different fruit juices mixed in that make this quite a delicious drink.

What puts this over the top is the 23,000 mg of fresh ginger root it has inside. That is not a typo, 23 THOUSAND milligrams. The next ingredient is green tea with 1,000 mg. While it doesn't have the burn of ginger beer, it's a great ginger taste throughout that I wish more ginger drinks had.

Hotlips Pear Soda

Hotlips Pear Soda
Hotlips does it again. They have managed to make a delicious fruit soda that isn't sweetened with any sugar. I had to look at the ingredients three times just to be sure. And you know what? It tastes great. I'm not one to eat a pear normally, but this is delicious. It's really juicy and flavorful.

My only complaint (and this goes for all Hotlips sodas) is it's only lightly carbonated. I like my soda to be moderately fizzy, but you barely notice it here.

Capri Sun Maui Cooler

Capri Sun Maui Cooler
My dad won a cruise and he gave it to my ladyfriend and I. I'm guessing there is some catch with this thing, but so far all I've found is that you have to pay the tax, which is about $150 per person. Also, we have to find our way to a port, which not shockingly is going to be the most expensive part. Here I sit looking into it, daydreaming about tropical locations and I decided to pretend I was a kid and drink a Capri Sun. They market these big boys as being for adults, but we all know they are for kids. I'm sitting here sucking on a chilidog, err I mean a Maui Cooler. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a tropical fruit punch, but the main fruits in it are apple, grape and orange (I guess you could consider that tropical if you really wanted to). The only other juice in it is pineapple, which I would expect in a Maui Cooler, but it's not very present in the flavor. It tastes like a juice box, because that is what it is. It just tastes like a higher quality generic fruit juice. No flavors really stick out. I'm okay with it. It's not my favorite, but I'm sure kids would be stoked to get these in their lunch boxes.

Now, to cruise, or not to cruise?

Fuze Strawberry Guava

Fuze Strawberry Guava
Two things: A. Why did they add sucralose to this when there are both sugar and crystalline fructose up near the top? B. Why does Fuze feel the need to add skim milk to their drinks?

In answer to A I've read that small amounts of sucralose and other zero calorie sweeteners help to enhance the natural flavors of a drink. I'm called bull on that. What it does enhance is the terrible artificial diet flavor. It's really unnecessary.

The reason for the second question isn't so clear. Perhaps the CEO just likes slightly milky drinks. It reminds me of when I was little and I would mix all the drinks in the fridge into a “power drink.” In early trials I would mix in some milk, then I realized that it was kind of gross, and I started to exclude it. It would sometimes curl when mixed with juice. I'm surprised that doesn't happen in here. Adding milk to a drink always gives it a slight melted ice cream flavor.

Let me sum up this drink for you. It would be a decent juice if there weren't sucralose in it. It's too bad that it has the terrible diet flavor to it. Why add that flavor when there is still 42g of sugar in the bottle? Oh and while we're at it, they should have left out the milk as it makes it weird and creamy and melted milkshake like.

Ujjyana Organic Amazon Guayusa Cherry Ginger

Ujjyana Organic Amazon Guayusa Cherry Ginger
Once again with a drink, I am of two minds. On one hand, this is a great iced tea. It'ss organic, sweetened really well with agave, and has a really nice flavor. And unlike a lot of sweetened iced teas, the sugar (or agave in this case) doesn't overpower it so you can still taste the tea. I must say, it is damn good tea. I don't think I've ever had guayusa tea before, but it's delicious.

So what's wrong with it do you ask? Despite the name, it doesn't taste like cherry or ginger. This is a shame because I was really looking forward to the ginger. I can't pinpoint, but it's still good. This, my friends, is the only reason this is getting a 3 instead of a 4, false advertising.

Welch's 100% Juice Grape

Welch's 100% Juice Grape
It's been awhile since I've had some grape juice. It falls under the same category as apple and orange juice in that they are around so much in stores (and occasionally the home) that you kind of forget about them and shrug them off. I'm sorry grape juice. I never should have let you fall out of my life, as you are delicious and in most instances you are way better than the juices I lump you in with. I think I mostly forgot about you, when pomegranate started showing up so much in things. To me in tastes like grape concentrate, and I guess subconsciously I was thinking that I was getting my fill of grapes. Now that I am sitting here, sipping on this juice, I know I was wrong. Grape juice, you blow pomegranate out of the water. You rely on flavor over intensity, the way things should be.

Welch's has done a great job here. It may not be over the top spectacular juice, but for a prepackaged version it's right on the money. It's strong and heavy, but it's not too intense like some juices can be. You don't get a little stomachache after drinking a glass. If you like purple grapes, then I think it's pretty safe to say that you will also really like this juice. After all it's just juice and vitamin C.

R.W. Knudsen Hibiscus Cooler

R.W. Knudsen Hibiscus Cooler
What a pile of garbage. Jay is going to be so disappointed, poor little guy. Back on May 21st of this year, I found on the internets that R.W. made a hibiscus cooler. We love hibiscus. It is a miracle ingredient. It makes everything better somehow. I've bought cases of a hibiscus tea I like because it was so exceptional.

This...there isn't much to be said about it. It tastes like a cranberry juice watered down with apple juice. Hello? Hibiscus? Are you even in there? I get it just at the end, that little bit of spicy, flower, but when I say "spicy" do not expect anything. It could be the orange talking. There is also orange in there but it might only be the aftertaste. So disappointing.

Jay, I know you've got a bottle of this at your house. Please don't get too sad about it. I'll talk you out of your inevitable depression.

Vita Lina Flaxseed Drink Pineapple

Vita Lina Flaxseed Drink Pineapple
The consistency of Vita Lina drinks is so strange. From the look of it sloshing around the bottle you wouldn't think that it flowed any different from a random drink. You don't really notice the strangeness until it's in your mouth. It's not syrupy. It's more like a watered down gel, but the viscosity of it is not something that is normal in drinks. I would like to say that I got over it and that it makes the drink fun, but this is my third bottle of their products and I still am hesitant to drink them. I know they taste great, but the consistency just throws me off. It's not gross. It's just weird.

As far as the flavor goes, this has a real pineapple flavor to it, without the harsh edge of the fruit. It tastes like of like it should be a pineapple “drink” and not juice. I don't mean that in a bad way though. Sometimes pineapple juice can be far too acidic to drink a lot of. Once you convince yourself that you're over the texture of this, you can drink this all day long.

Raaw Raspberry Lemongrass

Raaw Raspberry Lemongrass
If this is what the raw food movement is all about, I'm in. I'll stop cooking everything. I'll eat everything cold and uncooked and undercooked. Pizza? Nope. Not unless it's just a ball of cold dough with just a whole beefsteak tomato and just stalks of uncleaned oregano. That's my new pizza. My new taco is more of a taco bowl because I can't eat proper tortillas. My cereal is made with water and instead of marshmallows and chocolate is just corn or peas. My new strange, unconventional lifestyle is all worth it because I get to drink this drink.

This drink...is wonderful. It is a powerful blend of raspberries and lemongrass. That lemongrass, man. That is strong. That is a strong flavor that is wrapped in a secret, deceiving, grass looking disguise. You look at it and think, "Oh, that's grass. No big deal." Then you take a bite out of it and your hair looks like when you used to go to Spensers at the mall and touch that laser ball. The raspberry just cuts some of that powerful lemongrass and leaves you with something you think you've had before but haven't. Oh, raspberry lemonade? I've had it. You idiot. This is not wimpy lemonade. This is lemonade for adults. Adults who have scorched their mouths on pizza hundreds of times and now need something stronger to cut through the scars and your tired, grizzled old tongue.

I would love to see a wimp kid drink this and watch his face as the powerful flavor blasts his dumb taste buds out of his mouth and knocks those rubber bands from his braces across the room hitting his older sister in the cheek. She deserved it. Trust me. She's a brat.
